This is the beer that started it all- the community's love of this brew led to the initial formation of the business! Inspiration for the name came from the notorious Elwha ferry incident wherein, legend has it, the captain was distracted by a lady-friend and ran the boat aground off the coast of Orcas. Floral, citrusy, and earthy with a crisp finish. Bright and zippy hop presence that crashed into a grounded, supportive body. The malt foundation balances the hop bitterness in this classic Pacific Northwest style India Pale Ale. Dry hop: Chinook, aroma hop: Centennial, bittering hop: Zeus.
This flagship beer was the first collaboration between our three brewer-owners, Nate, Becca, and Jim. They created it for a friend who loved mixing barleywine with IPA. The result has become the signature beer of Island Hoppin'. An imperial red with full malt and hop body for an exceptionally smooth, strong ale. Ruby red color reminiscent of the eponymous Madrona tree. Dried fruit aromas lead the way to a strong, sweet, and malty beer that is dangerously sippable. Full, round mouthfeel, brightened by Zythos hops. Boozy, delicious, and a nice sipper but not to be messed with! The Old Madrona won the People's Choice Award at the 2014 Anacortes Oktoberfest. Thank you!
German style ale that drinks like a lager. Light and refreshing, our Kolsch was crafted by head brewer Nate for his hardworking friends to enjoy after work. During the beer's initial fermentation, a local resident pod of Orca whales had a baby- and the K-Pod Kolsch was born. The bready, smooth malt character of the pale and pilsner malt play well with the gentle bitterness of the EKG hops. Pairs well with food and summertime.

We like to try out new hops, and the best way we've found to do that is to have a rotating selection of a Session IPA; hence the ISA. No telling how long any specific batch will last!
This classic German style of lager is designed to showcase the malt for an instant before disappearing cleanly, with a surprisingly light body and an off-dry finish. Toasted robust malt on the palette, very light hop aroma; this deceptively drinkable beer will delight your tastebuds year-round.
Made with organic golden raspberries, and an American wheat body; this has quickly become a favorite. On the dry side, this fruit beer is a summer favorite!
Our tasting room is full of remarkable "Old Salts" telling tales over a pint. This remarkable Pacific Northwest style brown ale stands out for its undeniable charm- the allure of centennial hops and roasted malt aromas lead the way to an off-dry , full bodied ale with the richness of cocoa nibs.
Slightly dry, opaque, jet-black ale with a creamy, roasty full body. Dark roasted caramel aromas with chocolate and vanilla notes. "Sun over the Yardarm" is a nautical saying for the appropriate time for the first drink of the day.
Rich amber color, just slightly malt forward but kept from sweetness by East Kent Golding hops, a slight nutty flavor. It personally makes me think of creamy peanut butter cookies.
A 90 minute pilsner brewed with Pilsner malt from Idaho and all Golding hops. Crisp, clean, with a slight hoppy nose.
Brewed with all Comet hops, the light crisp body of the malts, allows the Comets to shine.
Why is the brewery closed today, Feb 15? Sign on door for hours as well as website indicates it should be open.?
Very relaxed friendly atmosphere. Great beers. I could definitely spend too much time here
MoreVery cool Brewer! They have a fantastic little patio, ping pong and most importantly, great beers!
MoreIt's the best brewery in the San Juan islands
They have a nice laid back vibe and great beers. Parking is a little crazy; hopefully the nearby businesses will open up their lots after hours, or they will solve the mud issue in the field across the gravel road. The parking peril was worth it though, judging by how packed it was with locals and visitors alike.
MoreWe were highly satisfied with our visit here. This place had great beer not just because it was the brewery around, it’s great beer that can contend with the likes of breweries in Portland. We enjoyed a tasting flight and not one of the beers were unenjoyable. I particularly liked the collab IPA, while my boyfriend was a fan of other IPA. Our bartender was friendly and fun. The merch here is great as well. This is definitely a ‘must visit’
MoreLoved every beer I tried on tap, all solid with robust flavors, they know their stuff. Not to mention the tasting room is decently priced and extremely cute.If it's nasty outside prepare to wait for a seat, the inside is small. Outside has lots of seating and Foosball.
MoreWe came across Island Hoppin' brewery during our stay at Orcas. The gal at the bar was soooo friendly and fun (I wish I had caught her name). The beer selection was great and delicious, they had quite the variety. Added bonus, the oeanuts and pretzels available for purchase. Our crew really enjoyed the back section of the brewery which was perfect for games. It was also kid friendly which was popular for familes coming in for a few beers. We will be back next time we are in town!
MoreWas happy they had samples of beer to try.
Solid beer and friendly staff.
We just love this place! Elwa is my favorite! Madronna is hubby's favorite! Where you can own your own mug!
MoreExcellent beer, great service, and a comfortable patio.
This is one of my favorite local hangouts, especially in the off season. This kid and dog friendly brewery doesn't serve food but you can bring your own or buy some peanuts or chips. Great beer and the staff is always fun and happy!
MoreGreat brewery! Will try to visit on every trip to Orcas. Highly recommended.
We've loved this place previously but posted hours on Google and their own webpage are not accurate for the winter. Closed on Mondays:-(
MoreGood beer, neat place
Great atmosphere, the bar tender was knowledgeable and fun to talk to. The beer was top great and the cream cheese and chips was delightful!
MoreIt's a wonderful small, cozy brewery..
We got the flight of 7 beers and the cheese plate. Their beers are great, the location has a cool cozy vibe. I'll be back.
MoreDelightful. Got the tasting flight and every variety was splendid. Real local-watering-hole vibe, including friendly dogs. Spotted a PNW music celeb coming out on our way in.
MoreA lot of breweries have a plethora of games, I like this, gives the family something to focus on while getting hop-headed. What set this place apart, for me anyway, was an old Japanese Takamine acoustic hanging on the wall, inviting patrons to strum! Oh yeah, good beer too!
MoreWe stopped here while we were staying on Orcas. Beer is great. Setting is small but we liked it. Service is great, people are nice. Highly recommend!
MoreAll the beers we tried were great! Very friendly staff.
Good atmosphere, good beer.
Tried a few beers here between the four of us, no one complained about them not being tasty. Nice chill little place, good atmosphere and seating/lounge areas—both inside and out.
MoreGreat beers, dope local brewery. Awesome service
Great little brewery to visit. My friend and I stopped in and did a tasting. The glasses were actually pretty big, so we split one between the two of us. Really loved the Camano Island Coffee Porter and the Golden Raspberry Wheat
MoreGreat place to get a drink while waiting for the ferry
I would expect the bartender to ask a few questions of me when i ordered a flight of beers. I was alone, of petite size, and i ordered a flight when i entered the doors. He did not bother to let me know how many ounces the flight was as is was TWICE THE SIZE of normal flights I've experienced. They give you 7 - 5 ounce glasses of beer!! Too much for this lil single gal! Would've made sense to at least inform me that their flights were twice the size of ther breweries flights! Got charged the full amount by the way even tho i couldn't drink them all.
MoreSuper awesome, friendly staff. Great atmosphere for a brewery. Beer was good. A must visit while on Orcas.
MoreSafe outdoor seating, helpful staff, wide selection of beers. All on the mild side.
MoreGreat find. We got the flight of beer and had a great time tasting our way through it. Beer is good and atmosphere is fun.
MoreAs a craft beer fan, I couldn't miss this place during my visit. Generous pours for the taster flight and each beer was great. The bartender (potentially the brewer/owner as well?) was laid back and loved cats (always a plus). A cozy taproom but more space in a side room and a big patio. Also picked up a cool ceramic mug done by a local artist.
MoreWe stopped by on a whim and tried 4 of the 7 beers on tap. All were amazing. We ended up spending 2 hours chatting with Nate, and really enjoyed our time. Great ambience, prices, and even better beer. It’s now on our ‘must go’ list for any future visits to the island.
MoreGreat beer and wonderful setting for small to large groups. Snacks available too.
MoreGreat brew pub, friendly service, great prices, and a few eats. It's where the locals go.
MoreQuaint little brewery. Nice place for the island. Great service, good landjaegers and beer!
MoreSmall brewery, no hot snacks but ping pong table.
Very nice to stumble onto a brewery in an out of the way place on Orcas Island. Even better when they have seven of their own beers and all pretty good. I recommend the IPA and the Imperial IPA (Madrona?)
MoreGreat place and tasty beer. They sell some snacks but nothing from a kitchen so if you’re hungry better eat before. Staff is super friendly! This place is dog friendly. I’d come back again.
MoreI'm definitely going to flights. Try them all! Friendly staff, great beer!
Got 5 growlers in the fridge right now. 2 are the raspberry wheat. I don't like wheats as a rule but I really took to this one. I got 2 of the madrona and I didn't think I'd like it...but I did. And then the chili blonde was great too. Got one of those just for me. All 7 were excellent but the 3 I've named were very worthwhile. Bring your own snacks or have some of theirs which are good. Honestly there are so many places in eastsound to eat why bother with food. Keep doing great beer!
MoreBeen going here for years, the beer has been improving every year. Had a great ISA today, freaking awesome! And they have a great new patio, and some really great food..... You owe it to yourself to visit
MoreHad an incredible experience here!! The staff is kind, knowledgable, and the Rasberry Wheat was fantastic. Would highly recommend.
MoreReally great place, they had plenty of board games and activities for while you have a drink as well as quiet corners if a board game isn't for you. We enjoyed the beer options and the ice cream sandwiches were the best I've had.
MoreDeliciius beer. I had their amber which with an ABV % of 8. So good but one was enough for me! They have a great patio where we brought our puppy to chill with us. The staff is great!
MoreFriendly, knowledgeable bartender. Great brews, especially the fresh hopped beer. They even welcome people to bring thier own picnic and stay a while. Worth the trip.
MoreAwesome ales on Orcas Island
Friendly bartender who makes everyone else sound like a girl. Seriously amazing bass. And beer.
MoreTasty beer, great location & patio area.
Wife loved the raspberry wheat. The IPA I tried was very ok. A little too bitter at 80 IBUs for a 5.1% abv beer in my opinion. The sour pickles were solid. Kind of tough to socially distance due to layout but all of the guests and staff were great about wearing face coverings.
